'IU' mini 5th album [Love poem]

There is no right answer in all literature, but among them, poetry is probably the most free from the limitations of interpretation. 

As long as it contains the artist's innocence, in any form, everything is poetically permitted.

I have a bit of a sense of embarrassment about expressions such as 'poet', 'art', 'inspiration' or 'work' that are a bit embarrassing to talk about with my own mouth. The reason I am not ashamed is because everything I put here is sincere. /

IU's 5th mini album [Love poem] has been released.

On November 1st, the pre-released song 'Love poem' of the same name swept #1 on various music charts, raising expectations for this album.

This mini-album [Love poem] contains a total of 6 songs, and IU wrote the lyrics for all songs and participated in composing 2 songs, once again demonstrating her ability as a producer.

Lee Min-soo, Lee Jong-hoon, Lee Chae-gyu, Je-hwi, Kim Hee-won, etc. have participated in IU's title song and major songs, and have had the greatest influence on IU's music life and a partner who contributed to her musical identity. We completed genres that go back and forth between uniqueness and epic sensibility, such as blues and Ethnic fantasy. In addition, Korea's top musicians such as Hong So-jin and Jae-Jeok participated in the arrangement and performance to further enhance the album's perfection.

In addition, following the description of the song that was a hot topic in the previous pre-released song 'Love poem', IU's song interpretation and commentary for the entire song this time too will give listeners more immersion and emotion.   

1. unlucky

When a radio DJ tells me the title of a very old song I've been trying to remember for days.

When I find the answer to my long agony in the words of a person who is neither close nor special to me without much meaning. 

When something I didn't even suspect betrayed me. 

When you meet a person you think you will see for a long time in the future at an appointment that was forcibly pushed away. I think life is like a well-planned prank. 

Its sophistication, like a sophisticated joke, sometimes makes me laugh, and sometimes it makes me feel sad in a moment of weakness and disappointment.

I wanted to put my feeling of being swayed like a fool every time, and yet this shabby heart that I want to lean on and wait for in this light music.

As I said several times in interviews, my childhood motto was 'I am lucky.' it was Now that I'm not that young, I don't want much luck. It's because I didn't look good on my own since someday, when I see good luck even if I walk well, I lose my focus while stretching out my hands and riding on the other side of the road. Rather, these days, when I suddenly look back on my past one day. I think it would be nice to have a life with quite a lot of other things left even after I picked out all the luck I've had in my life. 

The last track of this album, 'Love poem' 

If it's the cheering I give to someone I love, 'unlucky', the first track on the album, is the cheering song I sing to myself. /

This song is composed by Kim Je-hwi, the 'musician's idol' who has shown fantastic collaboration with IU several times, and is a light and sophisticated alternative pop genre. Like IU who likes chorus tracks enough to call herself a 'chorus lover', the witty and unique chorus of Mars pleases the ears.

2. That person

The story of 'that person' who suddenly came and stayed for a while like a guest. /

This is IU's own song, and it's a modern blues song in three beats that she has never tried before.

Also, unlike the recently released songs that favored a clean singing method with minimal virtuosity, it is new to sang with another singing method by using groovy vibrato and banding after a long time. 

With a witty arrangement by musician Jukjae 

The genre of blues, which may be unfamiliar to the public, was released more interestingly.

3. Blueming

Among the lyrics about love, my favorite piece is 'A Million Roses' by Soo-Bong Shim.

To me, expressing the fruits of love practiced without hatred with a single rose feels more poetic and beautiful than any metaphor about love.

The time when I have the most roses in a short period of time is right after I fall in love. 

Right before confessing my heart, when I express my feelings to the other person without adding or subtracting using all the words in the world except for one decisive word. When the vibration of a mobile phone feels like an earthquake that shakes my daily life without mercy. When words taken out without filtering become love poems. Sentences of unfamiliar resolution come pouring out of me wondering if this really came out of my head. There is so much love in me that I feel confident that I can easily bloom a million roses during that time. 

I am confident that I will be able to make a million flowers this time, a rose that is as bright blue as mine in our chat window, a 'miracle' like the flower language of that rose, and a fruit close to that 'impossible'. 

I've never been successful yet...

It is an electro pop-rock song by Lee Jong-hoon, Lee Chae-gyu, and IU, who showed a lively sound and balanced teamwork in 'Twenty-Three'. A unique synth source and dynamic band sound harmonized to create a unique result. For the music video, Naive Productions enhanced the project's perfection with a trendy direction.

4. Outside of Time

What happened to the two children who broke up 8 years ago, leaving behind a regrettable promise to meet in the future? 

I, who was the main character in the drama, wanted to become a writer myself this time and complete the story of the two.

After a long wait, I pondered for a long time which would be a good place for the two to finally meet again, and I was sorry that I was tied up for so long in the constraint of time. The two met again after traveling a long way, without relying on the past, standing on their feet, enjoying only the present moment, looking at each other and dancing out of breath. 

Even if this music ends, their dance will probably continue. 

But outside of time. we can no longer know 

outside of this story. /

It is an Ethnic fantasy genre song that composer Lee Min-soo and IU met again after 5 years since The Pink Shoes. 

In order to relive the emotions of that time, actor Lee Hyun-woo, who was the male lead in the 'You and I' music video, once again performed in a more mature form, and director Hwang Su-ah, the protagonist of IU's fantasy series, took charge of directing the music video again, from the time the teaser was released. The fans who remember their appearance 8 years ago raised high expectations that could not be hidden.

5. Lullaby 

This song was written with a motif from director Kim Jong-kwan's short film 'Walking the Night', which he appeared in last year. The subject of 'a dream you will forget after waking up' was fresh and good. It was a work that made me ponder over the whole time I was acting as Ji-eun in the movie, 'Is there a meaning of existence even in moments I can't remember?'

The lyrics are written from the point of view of the person who came to the dream, not the point of view of the dreamer. It contains the content of coming to a dream that will be forgotten after waking up, singing a lullaby to the last loved one to put him to sleep, and then leaving. /

It is an R&B song by Kim Hee-won, the composer of Night Letters and up-and-coming musician Kim Hee-won.

It is a minimalist composition filled with only piano melodies and IU's singing, but the sounds that contain emotions provide a sense of non-stop immersion.

6. Love poem

“Even human altruism is based on selfish foundations. “

 It's hard to watch a loved one go alone and isolated.

The words of support and consolation that I urged as if I was urging because it was painful to just watch without doing anything,

I used to mistakenly think that I was doing it for the other person.

I still can't stand meddling when someone sees my person struggling.

But now I know that my actions are not pure consideration or comfort for the other person, but my earnest request to see the peaceful daily life of that person.

I am in a position to ask for nothing, so I will only ask for the very minimum.

to listen to this poem,

and asking to breathe.

No one else can carry someone's life with them for the rest of their lives. But if the direction is right, we can walk together as much as we want. Another thing I learned is stealing, so I can sing to my loved ones any number of times.

Like many poems I received from the world while making music, I will diligently write heartfelt poems.

As we listened to each other's poems in turn,

I wish I could live, breathing big and small. /

It is a rock music that combines the unique pop melody of composer Lee Jong-hoon, an inseparable music partner with IU, and a lively band sound.

Sojin Hong participated in the arrangement, and the IU band (Sojin Hong, Jujae, Inseong Choi, and Seungho Kim) participated in the performance to enhance the level of perfection.

In addition, the voice of talented senior singer Ha Dong-gyun, who has been known to have a special camaraderie since IU's trainee days, adds weight to the message.
